First experience eating Truffle Fries at Lola's Cafe

Hello, anybody there? I'm back! I will try my best to update my blog more often.

I'm still a food and travel blogger, and actually I have a lots of things to blog about, but I don't have the time. If you need more food info urgently, please follow my instagram account @whatvinaeat. I update my instagram daily.

Actually I have tons of food photos, but I feel lazy to write the essay for my blog. Oh I wish I'm just a fashion blogger. Just snap some photos and put where I got those items. But I don't have good fashion items to show off. Lol

Back to main topic . . .

My friend once mention to me how good truffle fries is. I really wanted to try it for quite a long time, but always ended up choosing the main course over this because of the price.

Finally today I made up my mind, die die I must try the truffle fries. We (my husband and I) went to Lola's Cafe for brunch. This place is a highly rave cafe in Singapore. It's located near Kovan MRT, just 2 minutes walk. We've been there once actually, but didn't try their truffle fries. We like the food there, especially their brioche bread.

This place is super popular, there's always queue, we have to wait for around 20 minutes before we can get a table. But don't worry, they have a tablet where you can get your queue ticket and write down your phone number, once the table is ready for you, you'll get a sms. So you're free to go anywhere you like without worrying people might cut queue.

They had good selection of coffee, but I'm not a coffee person, sorry.

OK, now here comes the food...

First time we went there, there were 5 of us, so we managed to order more varieties. One of my friend ordered the Croissant, it was so good! Next time when I come here I wanted to try this.

Bacon and egg croissant, if I'm not wrong, this dish is not listed on their menu on the website. I can't cheat.

This is everyone's favorite on the menu, Avocado Egg Benedict. I'm not a runny egg yolk kind of person, so I don't really have the right to comment here. All I can say is I can't really tasted the avocado, and it is a raw sliced avocado, my expectation was some kind of guacamole. The brioche bread save the dish. Really love their bread.

Avocado Egg Benedict
Yeeay mushroom! My fave veggie. Whenever I see mushroom on the menu, I'm sold! I have to order whatever it is. And this is really good. Second time we come back, this is the dish that we ordered again!

The creamy mushroom is melting on your mouth, and again the brioche bread, it's crispy on the edges but very fluffy in the middle... Where do they get the bread?? How do they cook it until this perfection...
Mushroom Melt, the side salad balance it all
And finally the truffle fries... the most expensive fries that I ever bought. This small plates of fries cost $12 (IDR 100rb!!!). When I put this on my mouth, I can feel the strong aroma of the truffle. The fries is thinner than usual fries (compared to mc donald's), it's crunchy and not oily at all. It's a bit salty but not too salty. I think those white flakes is parmesan not salt.

This fries is perfect to share for 3-4 persons. I feel it a bit too much and too expensive for 2 persons.

Now truffle fries is on the list of my favorite food.

Fine Dining at Restaurant Les Bouquinistes à Paris de Guy Savoy

If you visit Paris, at least you must experience a real fine dining. In my life I only experienced real fine dining few times only and always end up it didn't make me full at all. But the food was good.

The title looks so cool right? Yes we ate there. It's a restaurant owned by Guy Savoy, but not the michelin star one. The price will be doubled if we went to Guy Savoy Restaurant. My boss tell me better go to this one, the food might me more or less the same, but only the place and the service won't really be super 'atas'. And if you want to save money also, better dine during lunch time because the Set Lunch is cheaper compared to the Set Dinner. It comes with a glass of wine too.

No need too talk too much, here're the verdicts..

This is the interior. Not so packed during lunch hour

The service was good, we made a reservation like 2 weeks before (super kiasu) because I don't want to ruin my schedule and end up not having a fine dining or have one but the price and the food is not comparable. So better make a reservation, it's free and you still can cancel it anyway.

They had 2 options for the Set Lunch, fish or beef. It consists 3 courses meal: appetizer, main and dessert. And also a glass of wine. We ordered both, so we can taste everything. If you have more budget, you should order the Tasting Menu, it's like they will served you whatever best ingredients they had that day.

Here comes the food. . . .

Appetizer #1, it's a pan fried prawn in something. I can't remember anymore... sorry.. But it tasted so good, and only 3 pieces.. I wish I had more

Appetizer #2 is Tomato Soup, I forgot what is the green thing. This is also so good...

Main #1, the beef. From the photo you can tell it's a perfectly cook beef, when you chew you can't tell the different whether you eating the beef or your own tongue. The potatoes also so good.

Main #2 The Fish, haiyah, forgot what kind of fish it is. The fish cooked perfectly also, it's a bit crispy on the outside but very juicy and tender inside, but still cannot beat the fish that I had in Barcelona.

Dessert #1, mixed berries sorbet. Not really a fan of berries, tasted nice but nothing really special.
I like the bowl, where can i get one?

Dessert #2, also some sorbets, It should be in different flavors, but all tasted almost the same. I only can tell the white one is coconut, the green one is pistachio, maybe. Taste like normal sorbet also. Why there is no chocolate dessert, I hate set lunch.
We were the only asian on that restaurant, until a Japanese couple came in at seated on the table next to us. Something funny happened. They also ordered both set lunch like us, and when they wanted to switch place, the waiter take the plate, and there is a few second panic moment that they thought the waiter is going to bring away the plate, thought that they're done. But luckily the waiter just want to help them switching plates.

When we saw that situation we can't help to not giggles, and I told him that can be happening to us. I will be very panicked of the waiter take away my half eaten expensive food.

Oh yeah, the Set Lunch price is 35 Eur (around S$60) before tax and tips. Is it worth the price? Hmmm.. I can say that it's worth the experience. The food is fine, even it doesn't really make you full, but definitely it gives me an experience how's fine dining in Paris feels like. The Parisian do it everyday. I also can't do it everyday if money allows. Lol
